Bonjour Proustians!
Today is the first day of my summer journey to read Swann’s Way, the first volume of Marcel Proust’s gigantic six-volume novel In Search of Lost Time. If you’d like to join me, we’re focusing this week on the first chapter of Part One: Combray.
Exact pages may vary based on your translation, but this is approximately the first 45ish pages of the book (if your edition includes an Overture section, I believe this is it). For the full reading schedule, see my recent overview post on the project here:
I’ll be checking back in later in the week with some thoughts on this section, questions to think about, and maybe some supplemental reading if I find anything useful and free to share. I’ll also be opening up the subscriber chat to paid subscribers, for us to discuss amongst ourselves. I’d love for you to join us if you’re interested!
Lastly, I’ll be reaching out to paid subscribers soon with some suggestions for IRL/virtual meeting dates, so stay tuned! Looking forward to putting my English major/French minor brain to good use in the weeks ahead, and grateful to everyone who has already signed on to join me. Je vous apprécie!
Happy reading,
Catherine
